YEG Christmas Giveaway Day 2 | Blue Hour Tea
It is my pleasure to introduce you to Sheldon Polowick of Blue Hour Tea. I first tasted Sheldon's teas at a Made Social event. I was that weird person who kept shyly approaching the food table, trying to hide the fact that I had just been at the table 3 minutes prior. I almost consumed a whole jug of sparkling tea all to myself. There were little paper cups beside the tea, which implied you were supposed to drink the tea with those. I glanced over my shoulder and when no one was looking filled up my water bottle with this heavenly tea. I truly am a classy broad. Why do I always experience food table shame? It was in that moment that I knew I needed to have these unbelievably flavourful teas in my giveaway!
Sheldon graduated from NAIT in 2010 with a Culinary Arts Diploma. After spending a year in Paris working as a Sous Chef, Sheldon came back to Edmonton feeling inspired to start something that challenged and interested him. Along with his brother, Lucas, they came up with the idea to start a tea company. Sheldon appreciates how tea brings people together and it's this aspect of tea drinking that he noticed in his travels. From Sweet Tea in the Southern States to Mint Tea in Morocco, every region has a tea culture.
Sheldon furthered his education and became a Tea Sommelier. This, combined with his culinary education and Lucas' finance background, led the way for Blue Hour Tea to become a reality. They started Blue Hour Tea hoping that it would bring something new to tea drinkers and and be a great introduction to tea to those that aren't. I think it's safe to say that they have done this above and beyond expectation. Sheldon shared with me that 'Blue Hour' is a term that photographers use for that time just before sunrise and just after sunset; which also happens to be around the time many people drink tea. Next time you're looking for a delightful morning tea or a calming evening drink, I urge you to support this wonderful, passionate, local business! Just be sure to invite me over for a cup when you do.
Sheldon was gracious enough to give away:
- 60 grams of Canadian Breakfast
- 60 grams of French No. 7
- 60 grams of Sleep
- 200 grams of Agave Chai
- a tea steeper
Umm.. AWESOME. And there's more! Rostizado + District Cafe!
